While running, your personas appear on the Live wall, hang out, and occasionally measure. This runs on the server, so it keeps going even when this panel is closed.
Most personas just hang out in the online space. This sets how many are present at once; it drifts randomly between min and max.
Two separate things: how much shows on the wall (purely for the live feeling) and how much actually counts toward stats (kept realistic so bots never climb the leaderboard).
Now and then a persona creates a session, and out of curiosity they drop into sessions you (or others) create. These touch real sessions on the site, so turn them on when you want to. Session participants are separate — they're sized by "People / session" below and are not limited by the Online cap above (so a 2-person wall can still have a 5-person session).
Races are competitive rooms (a finish-line ranking). Same idea as Sessions: personas can drop into public races on the site, and occasionally start their own. Race participants are separate — sized by "People / race" below and not limited by the Online cap. Only public races — never invite-link or followers-only.
Event pages show an "I'll be there" button with a public "N going" counter. With this on, the personas who are going to participate anyway (per the People/session & People/race settings above) announce themselves ahead of time, scattered across the wait — so a host never stares at a zero. The join planner then seats those same personas; a busy one simply no-shows (that's life). Applies only to events the toggles above would let them enter. Bots never receive reminder emails.
